I was talking to a friend I highly idolized as an essential oil guru. I had not talked to her in years. I was saying how beautiful the Lime essential oil was from Mexico these days, and what a lovely shade of green it was. She said “Oh, what was the method of extraction?” And I happily replied, "Expeller pressed," wondering why she did not know that. She hesitated and then pronounced “It cannot be real essential oil--they are only steam distilled.” It was at that moment time stood still--and a creepy feeling she did not know squat after all of these years. To me, it was a very basic concept--that some essential oils are expressed (pressed). Of course I had advanced a lot over the years we did not speak. Her professed knowledge had formerly been her power over me, a reason to have my attention, which I never understood until that moment.
